CURRICULUM PHILOSOPHY

At Saint Charles County Driving School we offer 6 structured driving lessons, each focusing on specific skills which are important for new drivers.  Our curriculum is designed specifically for teens with each lesson building upon the previous, thus increasing the students skill level with each lesson.  Students begin by learning basic rules of the road and how to overcome blind spots, as well as instruction and demonstration of the proper use of the various vehicle controls, mirrors and seat placement.  The following are some of the skills covered throughout our curriculum:

  • Smooth starting/stopping
  • Turning while moving and from a stop
  • Understanding roadway signs
  • Lane integrity
  • Proper following distance
  • Maintaining proper speed
  • Negotiating curvy roads
  • Driving on highways and interchanges
  • Proper lane change
  • Yielding
  • Collision avoidance
  • Detecting potential hazards
  • Evasive maneuvers
  • Parallel Parking/Parking in a space/Parking at a curb
  • Backing techniques

We believe in the importance of parents being informed and involved with the progress of the student.  In order to facilitate this process, driving instructors complete evaluations assessing students skills and progress, which will identify strengths and weaknesses for the student.  Parents will be provided feedback with important tools, which will assist them when driving with the student between lessons.  Upon request, parents are provided a written copy of the students evaluation.
